SEASONS CHANGED WITH THE DIVIDED NATION | BLOG TOUR, DAY 5

THANK YOU ALL so much for your support, comments, reviews, and shares. If you’ve read The Divided Nation, I would sooo love an Amazon review and it counts as a giveaway entry till the 19th!

I’ve been mega busy with life things (fun fact: I’ve started my senior year of highschool. Launching a book at the same time is quite the ride) but my readers and friends have made this such an amazing launch. ♥

THE DIVIDED NATION

The Divided Nation (The Infidel Books, #1)

WHEN THE NATION DIVIDES, THE INFIDELS MUST RISE.

The United States has fallen. Three years after the 2024 presidential election and the declaration of martial law, the nation is at war against itself. Gangs battle, civilians struggle for survival, and officials of the United Nations  thrive. West Johnston, heir to the most powerful ganglord in the country, refuses to continue the family legacy. But, in order to defeat his father, he must become him: bloodthirsty and willing to do whatever it takes for control.

West gains control by helping fellow gangsters, Nate and Simon, when they form an alliance with one of the last remaining townships in America. After years of surviving and winter fast approaching, Springtown is in desperate need of supplies from the two teenagers. When the town leader’s daughter, Rene’, is kidnapped by an unknown rival, Nate and Simon risk their reputations to save her and the town they now love. But without help from West, their rescue mission will fail.

Told in multiple bold, abrasive narratives, THE DIVIDED NATION steps into a future where brotherhood bonds must be stronger than iron to survive a broken world, and faith without courage is dust in the wind.

SEASONS CHANGED WITH THE DIVIDED NATION

(Huge props to anyone who recognized the When The Seasons Changed by 5FDP reference in the title. Love you.)

The Divided Nation was the first book I had full creative license with, and that’s partially because it is dystopian/scifi, not contemporary romance. And you know what? It was amazing fun to write. But it was also more than that. It was me growing up.

What do I mean? I mean that I’ve spent years writing things I knew very, very well, things I knew my friends would read and life, things I used to help me cope and get through life. The Divided Nation was my giant step out of my usual genre. It was a giant step to being more creative (GUYS, I’m gonna write a young woman like Bebe off of Frasier… I can’t say more but I am so excited for the gals to come in this series…).

I learned a lot about God while writing this book. But I also learned about God when I wasn’t writing. I learned that seasons change and that’s OK. Authors are lonely creatures, but support systems are key, and sometimes, those change. That’s OK. It’s OK to keep growing, keep going, keep learning. We do not have to stay in the same season as our loved ones. We do not have to write to please the market. We do what God leads us to do…

It was a scary step for me, entering this new genre, watching friends grow quiet as I tackled darker topics in a gritty way. And you know what? I learned to love that, too. Love the challenge of doing my best with something new. Love meeting new people who supported me and I could support them, too. Life is a cycle and nothing ever stops. If it gets comfortable, what’s the fun in that?

The challenge that knocks you down and scares you mindless is often the one that sets you free. If I hadn’t listened to God and taken this step, I’d still be where I was. I wouldn’t understand God as well as I do now. And this month, my mom was tested four times in a row, negative with Lyme. This has everything to do with this novel because my mother being sick was one of the biggest trials in my life. But God healed her. And that set a whole new hope in this series for me!

Today, as I watch people review and flail about The Divided Nation, I thank Jesus for this opportunity. I could’ve chickened out. I could’ve listened to the voices inside my head. I could’ve been afraid to share something like this because people would hate it. But God had a better plan and I listened. I accepted the change of seasons, I didn’t ignore it or run from it. Was I scared? Yes. But I still followed God into the new season. God is not finished with our stories.

God bless,
Angela

  1. I’m waiting for the girl charries to come into this series! And that’s amazing how God healed your mom. This is a really inspiring post. It’s hard for me to step out of my usual fantasy/dystopian genres, because contemporary is ridiculously hard for me (I have experience with imagined worlds and corrupt governments. normal life? not so much). And yet I’m still trying to figure out a contemporary story of my own 🙂
